Brussels, 08/04/2009 (Agence Europe) - At its meeting in Brussels on 31 March 2009, the European Parliament's Employment and Social Affairs Committee adopted by 38 to 2 and no abstentions a report by José Silva Peneda (EPP-ED, Portugal) on the revised social agenda. The MEPs urged 1) the Council and Commission, as a result of the economic downturn, to restate the importance of a strong social Europe incorporating sustainable, effective and efficient policies in the social domain and for employment; and (2) the Commission to publish a proposal to ensure a better home-work balance by making the most of ITC and new ways of organising work. The report will be voted upon by the EP plenary in May 2009. (G.B. trans fl)
