European Greens have decided to campaign against José Manuel Barroso and the rest of the Commission being allowed to return to office, because they are 'the people who led us into this crisis' by arguing for self-regulation of the financial markets, explained outgoing Belgian MEP Pierre Jonckheer (Ecolo) on Friday 27 March), who will not be standing in the European elections in June. He said José Manuel Barroso was 'a consummate opportunist' and 'the Council within the Commission.' The problem is that the Greens have not come up with any alternative, and simply hope that the Socialists will put forward a candidate to stop Barroso being re-elected as President of the scam. Would it have to be a Socialist? As far as Pierre Jonckheer is concerned, at least, Michel Barnier of France or Belgian Liberal Guy Verhofstadt would be 'far better candidates than Barroso'.
