German Greens have new slogan, “Wums”

Berlin, 25/03/2009 (Agence Europe) - In coming weeks, German voters will become familiar with a word that, although incomprehensible to begin with, will become a slogan in the Greens' campaign for the European elections.

What can “Wums” mean? It is not as fanciful as it may seem, as it is made up of the first letters of policies and virtues that the Greens wish to make their hobby-horse economy, environment, human, social in the run-up to the 7 June ballot: “Wirtschaft, Umwelt, menschlich, sozial”, or in other words “”. Things will become clearer with posters and leaflets saying “Explaining Europe with Wums”, etc.

Will this slogan help the Greens to reach the dream result of the last European elections, 11.9%? (In 2004, in Berlin, the Greens had won even more votes than the SPD). Germans believe 2009 will be a great year for elections: - the European elections will be followed by consultation exercises in Saarland, Saxony and Thuringia, and by the Bundestag elections on 27 September.
