10/03/2009 (Agence Europe) - Luis Moreno Ocampo, the International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutor, announced his intention to begin an investigation into whether Israel should be tried for war crimes. Mr Ocampo, whose name is cited in the investigation against the Sudanese president, al-Bashir, indicated in a statement made to the Argentinean newspaper, Dominical Perfil: “We are in an analysis phase. I have still not decided whether we will launch investigations but there is a possibility that this will happen”. Israeli military intervention in Gaza at the end of December 2008 left 1,300 dead. Phosphorous bombs are the subject of particular scrutiny. The complaint was lodged by the Palestinian Authority and in the name of Ali Khasan, the minister of justice, in January, who promised to submit further evidence. (F.B./transl.rh)
