Parliament considers NATO's role “important” in security architecture of Europe

Brussels, 19/02/2009 (Agence Europe) - Adopting by a very slim majority (293 votes to 283 and 60 abstentions) the report by Ari Vatanen, Finnish representative elected in France on an UMP list, the Parliament calls for greater complementarity between European defence and NATO.

During their vote in Brussels on Thursday 19 February, MEPs massively approved (489 votes for, 85 against and 68 abstentions) a joint amendment of the PES and EPP-ED Group which recognises the “important” (and not...
