THE DAY IN POLITICS / (eu) ep/croatia

22/01/2009 (Agence Europe) - The European Parliament's foreign affairs committee adopted, on 21 January, the report by Hannes Swoboda (PES, Austria) on Croatia, which considers it feasible that the country's membership talks may be concluded by the end of this year. Bilateral talks (such as the current border dispute between Croatia and Slovenia which continues to block several chapters of the membership talks) should not be an obstacle to continuing the accession process, MEPs say. The two countries are called upon to show proof of goodwill in resolving this conflict as swiftly as possible. The report will be discussed and voted on during the March plenary session.
