Brussels, 09/12/2008 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday 4 December, the European Commission set up an expert group to discuss how personal data protection needs to be adapted in the face of development of new technologies and the web, in particular. The reflection group, which met for the first time on Thursday, is made up of two lawyers, Henriette Tielemans from Belgium and Christopher Kuner from Germany, two industrialists, both Americans, Peter Fleisher of Google and David Hoffman of Intel, both in charge of personal data protection, and Jacob Kohnstamm, from the Dutch data protection body. The group will meet no more than five times in 2009 and will report by the end of the year. It will engage a debate on the possible review of the 13-year old personal data protection directive.
