Brussels, 10/11/2008 (Agence Europe) -The EU has voiced its concerns at the political instability in Bosnia-Herzegovina and has called on its leaders and the various ethnic communities and political parties to agree on the reforms needed to move the country forward towards European integration. "The Council voiced its deep concern at recent developments in the political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, particularly the use of nationalist rhetoric and the implementation of unilateral decisions by some leaders, thereby jeopardising power sharing and the foundations of the state. Such words and deeds compromise the reforms required for the country's future", the Foreign Affairs Ministers state in the conclusions adopted during Monday's Council. The Twenty-Seven call on the Bosnian authorities "to shoulder their responsibilities, and to renew their efforts to push through the necessary reforms for Bosnia and Herzegovina to progress on the path towards the EU". Three of the principal political parties of the country have concluded an agreement to this purpose. The Council has called for them to implement it and urges all of the political forces in Bosnia to get behind the project. For its part, the EU is prepared to "step up its involvement" in Bosnia-Herzegovina and assume its responsibilities, the ministers stress. (H.B./trans.fl)
