Brussels, 10/11/2008 (Agence Europe) - The European Steering Committee of Notre Europe, chaired by Jacques Delors, met in Paris on Friday 7 and Saturday 8 November. Present were Notre Europe's president, Tommaso Padoa-Schioppa, its honorary president, Pascal Lamy, and numerous other well-known European figures. The members of the committee debated issues fundamental to the future of the EU: the Georgian crisis and security, the financial crisis and economic governance, democracy and the Lisbon Treaty, energy and climate, and the European budget. They discussed, in particular, issues such as EU economic governance, the 2009 European elections and the functioning and position of each European institution, the future development of common policies with a view to the important debate on the EU long term financial perspectives. They expressed their general agreement on the text entitled “The European Union's Acid Test”, which will be available on the think tank's web site http: //http://www.notre-europe.eu from 11 November.
