Public authorities will have to consider environmental impact of vehicles they are planning to buy

Brussels, 24/10/2008 (Agence Europe) - Meeting in plenary on Wednesday 22 October 2008, MEPs approved by a wide majority (642 to 37 with 24 abstentions) a report by Danish PES MEP Dan Jorgensen on the draft directive on promoting clean, energy-efficient vehicles. The vote confirms the compromise reached between the European Parliament and Council in first reading and will force local authorities to introduce environmental criteria in their public tender for vehicles and transport services...
