Commission suggests speeding up time taken to refund savers if their bank goes bust

Brussels, 15/10/2008 (Agence Europe) - Three days is the time set by the European Commission for refunding savers if their bank goes bust in the draft legislation unveiled on Wednesday 15 October 2008 to amend EU Directive 1994/19/EC on national savings guarantee systems (see Europe 9761) to help ensure Europeans do not panic and shift their savings from distressed banks to other, less badly affected banks or banks in countries with more favourable consumer legislation.
