14/10/2008 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 14 October 2008, the European Commission held a stakeholder conference to launch examination of the trans-European transport networks (TEN-T), a process which should end in 2010 with a review of the TEN-T guidelines. A Green Paper on the future of TEN-T policy will be published early next year. At a press conference, EU Transport Commissioner Antonio Tajani said that he was seeking solutions with the European Investment Bank (EIB) to introduce a “network of guarantees” for the private sector wishing to invest in TEN-T projects. Tajani said this would boost the current loan guarantee system introduced in July 2008 (see EUROPE 9578), adding that the EIB was looking into the idea. Tajani announced that the Commission will send a technical advisor to the African Union to advise on the development of a trans-African transport network. (A.By./trans fl)
