07/10/2008 (Agence Europe) - While welcoming the publication of the “eagerly awaited” Green Paper on Territorial Cohesion on 6 October, (see EUROPE 9754), Ambroise Guellec (EPP-ED, France) was critical of the European Commission's “overcautiousness”. He regretted that the document “does not always bring a clear, shared definition of the concept of territorial cohesion”. He pointed out that the European Parliament was calling for an integrated approach that put the territorial dimension at the heart of all Community and public policies which have an impact on regional development, including the Lisbon strategy. Gisela Kallenbach (Greens/EFA, Germany) was also disappointed, commenting that “the mountain brought forth a mouse” and bemoaning the “weak content” of the Commission text. (L.C./transl.rt)
