Brussels, 07/10/2008 (Agence Europe) - A decision of the EU Council of Ministers, adopted by written procedure on Monday 6 October, has endorsed the appointment of Catherine Ashton, Baroness Ashton of Upholland, to the post of European Trade Commissioner, succeeding her British compatriot Peter Mandelson, who has returned to the UK government, where he has occupied the post of Business Minister since 3 October (see EUROPE 9754).
