02/10/2008 (Agence Europe) - The president of the Brittany region (France), Jean-Yves Le Drian, launched an appeal on Thursday 2 October, during the general assembly of the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions (CPMR) in Bayonne, to regions specifically affected by the third maritime safety package (Erika II). He urged them to exert pressure to get this package quickly adopted. Le Drian said that the welcome given to these measures by European governments had been too timorous. He explained that he would be “asking for a hearing with the French president on this subject before the European Council in December”. Galicia, Cornwall, the Baltic and Sicily, for example, may be interested by this initiative, Mr Le Drian informed EUROPE. (L.B.S./transl.rh)
