24/09/2008 (Agence Europe) - During a joint meeting of the European Parliament's foreign affairs and development committee during the selection of the three Sakharov 2008 prizes, its president, Hans-Gert Pöttering called on the Burmese authorities to release the 1990 Sakharov prize winner, Aun San Suu Kyi. The latter has been under house arrest and her health is fragile, even though the authorities recently improved her living conditions. (L.G/trans/rh 19H43)
