Brussels, 15/09/2008 (Agence Europe) - The spokesperson for European Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson, Peter Power confirmed on Monday 15 September that the Commission will not recommend imposing compensatory duties on exports of Chinese steel, which are suspected by European steel producers of being part of dumping practices. As part of the three investigations conducted against Chinese steel, the Commission has confirmed that the EU will not impose duties on metallic coated iron and flat-rolled steel, products which are used in construction. Nevertheless, the investigation will continue, Mr Power said. Stainless steel cold-rolled flat products and wire rods are still subject to investigation. The Commission still has six months before deciding whether or not to recommend anti-dumping duties on these products for a period of five years. (E.H./transl.fl)
