09/09/2008 (Agence Europe) - In a press release published on 6 September, the Presidency of the EU Council welcomes the fact that Michèle Duvivier Pierre-Louis took up the post of prime minister of the Republic of Haiti the day before. The Presidency assures the new prime minister that the European Union will continue to work alongside the Haitian authorities to help that country continue with its reforms with a view to its stabilisation and development. The French EU Presidency seizes this opportunity to send its sincere condolences to the population of Haiti that is severely affected by devastating cyclones. It goes on to state that the EU will continue to assist Haiti in its efforts to overcome the great hardship being endured. (A.B./transl.jl)
