22/08/2008 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has cleared the creation of a joint venture for the allocation of power transmission capacities on the borders between Belgium, France, Germany, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. Called “Capacity Allocation Service Company for Central Western Europe” (CASC), the new entity is formed from the merger of electricity transmission system operators: CEGEDEL Net S.A. (Luxembourg), ELIA System Operator SA/NV (Belgium), EnBW Transportnetze AG (Germany), E.ON Netz GmbH (Germany), RTE EDF Transport S.A. (France), RWE Transportnetz Strom GmbH (Germany) and TenneT TSO BV (Netherlands). The joint venture will provide crossborder capacity allocation services to the interconnectors in Central Western Europe with a view to harmonising long-term auctions of power transmission capacity by creating a one-stop-shop for market participants.
