Greenpeace welcomes Austria's decision to ban MON 863 genetically modified maize in defiance of European Commission if necessary

Brussels, 29/07/2008 (Agence Europe) - Austria has decided to ban the import of the highly controversial Monsanto genetically modified MON 863 maize and is preparing to inform the European Commission of its decision. The news has been welcomed by Greenpeace, which urges other EU Member States to 'follow the Austrian example and protect the health of its citizens.'
