Despite opening of negotiations between Mugabe and Opposition, Council toughens targeted sanctions against Mugabe and those who carried out acts of violence during presidential elections

Brussels, 22/07/2008 (Agence Europe) - In protest at the unlawful outcome of the second round of the presidential elections in Zimbabwe on 27 June, EU Foreign Ministers decided unanimously in Brussels on 22 July to toughen and extend the targeted sanctions against Robert Mugabe and his regime applied by the EU since 2002 (see EUROPE 9706).
