22/07/2008 (Agence Europe) - Jacques Toubon (EPP-ED, France) has been awarded the Protypos Prize 2008, which celebrates and recognises the activities of leading figures who have played a significant role in promoting the cause of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the area of standardisation. The prize is awarded by NORMAPME, the organisation which represents SMEs in the European standardisation and certification systems. The organisation particularly appreciated Toubon's active and decisive role in the adoption of the legislative package improving the free movement of goods (see EUROPE 9607 and 9601). The Protypos award is shaped like an Attic amphora, an object used in ancient Greece to transport, store and measure the volume of certain goods. (M.B./transl.rt)
