G8 agreement on reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2050 keeps world on track for agreement in Copenhagen, EU says

Brussels, 08/07/2008 (Agence Europe) - The leaders of the world's eight most heavily industrialised countries, meeting at the G8 summit in Toyako, on the island of Hokkaido, Japan, agreed on 8 July to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by at least 50% by 2050. They also agreed to set up mid-term targets, without settling the detail at this time, much to the displeasure of environmental NGOs.
