Brussels, 09/06/2008 (Agence Europe) -Ever since 2003, the Thessaloniki agenda has set the framework and objectives for the European partnership with the Western Balkans via the Stabilisation and Association Process (SAP). This process, which is based on the partnerships for accession of the candidate countries, came in for severe criticism from the Serbian head of government, Vojislav Koštunica, who himself negotiated the stabilisation and association agreement (SAA), in an opinion presented by his party (DS) in which he described the agreement as "legally null and void". This statement and his refusal to have the agreement ratified by the parliament come against a backdrop of tension in the Balkans (Kosovo, EULEX) and were in turn roundly criticised by member of the European Parliament Doris Pack (EPP-ED, Germany), who is an expert on Western Balkan issues: "With such obstructive behaviour, Koštunica is doing nothing but isolating his country. The future of an entire generation would be ruined if Serbia decided to abandon the European path ". (A.D./transl. fl)
