09/06/2008 (Agence Europe) - On the eve of the EU-/US summit on Tuesday 10 June in Brdo, Slovenia (EUROPE 9677), the secretary general of the Arab League, Amr Moussa, called on European and US leaders to hold a “serious discussion” on the Middle East peace process. During a press conference with the Slovenian minister of foreign affairs, Dimitrij Rupel, on Monday in Slovenia, Mr Moussa called on Europeans to insist to Mr Bush that a Palestinian state be created “by the end of the year”. Mr Moussa stated that this question and this appeal should be put to President Bush. At this same summit on Tuesday, Amnesty International (AI) appealed to the EU to pro-actively help the Americans close down the Guantanamo Bay prison camp, and in a press statement declared that “instead of watching passively, the EU should engage with the US in the search for a solution that will put an end to Guantanamo and the failure of rule of law that it represents”. .
