07/05/2008 (Agence Europe) - The Solar Impulse pilots will carry out the first test flights in a flight simulator at the Dübendorf aerodrome, where a prototype of the solar aeroplane has been built, from 12 to 16 May. The public will be able to follow these tests at http://www.solarimpulsevirtualflight.com Bertrand Piccard and André Borschberg will take over one from the other at the controls of the flight simulator, each making a 25-hour flight. They will test a full-size model of the cockpit in weather conditions as near to real life as possible. The Solar Impulse team intends to construct an aeroplane powered only by solar energy and to carry out a round-the-world flight without fuel or polluting emissions. (B.C.)
