Brussels, 03/04/2008 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission is engaged in several infringement proceedings in the following internal market-related areas: - taxable amount of VAT in case of barter transactions, reasoned opinion against Spain; - tax incentives for research and development, reasoned opinion against Hungary; - car taxation, reasoned opinion against Malta; - free provision of services (control of organic farm products), letter of formal notice sent to Austria; - freedom of establishment (national rules on the establishment of commercial premises), Commission brings Spain before the Court of Justice; - banking: Commission closes case against France over law on current account interest; - public procurement (waste management services), reasoned opinions sent to Italy and Germany; - public procurement (concessions for Paris horse racing services), Commission decides to send a letter of formal notice to Italy to comply with 2007 Court of Justice judgement; - professional qualifications: reasoned opinion to three member states - Belgium, the Czech Republic and Spain, and referral to the Court of Justice against eight countries (Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Spain, France, Greece, Ireland and Luxembourg); - lawyers' fees, reasoned opinion to Italy; - privatisation agreements, reasoned opinion against Slovakia; - motor insurance, reasoned opinion against the United Kingdom; - harbour dues, reasoned opinion against Spain; - and the free provision of services in maritime transport, reasoned opinion sent to Finland.
