Rising industrial production prices in Europe

Brussels, 03/04/2008 (Agence Europe) - In February 2008, the index of industrial production prices rose 0.6% in the eurozone and 0.5% in the EU27 on January 2008, when they rose by 0.9% and 1.1% respectively. Compared with February 2007, industrial production prices rose 5.3% in the eurozone and 6.1% in the EU27, according to figures released by Eurostat, the EU's statistical office, on Wednesday 2 April. In monthly terms, prices across all of industry apart for energy rose by 0.5% in both the eurozone and the EU27. Prices in the energy industry rose by 1.1% and 0.7% respectively. The greatest rises were recorded in Slovakia (2.5%), Belgium (1.5%) and Slovenia (1.4%) and the only falls were recorded in Luxembourg (-3.3%) and Denmark (-0.7%). In annual terms, prices across all of industry apart from energy rose 3.6% in the eurozone and 3.8% in the EU27. Prices in the energy industry rose 11.7% and 13.5% respectively. The biggest rises were recorded in Lithuania (17.3%), Bulgaria (14%) and Romania (13.6%) and the smallest rises in Germany (3.8), Luxembourg (4.2%) and Finland (4.7%). (A.B.)
