19/02/2008 (Agence Europe) - On Monday 18 February during a debate with Dick Marty, rapporteur for the Council of Europe on terrorism, members of the EP's civil liberties committee (LIBE) said that the EU has to revise its procedures for establishing terrorist black lists because they do not guarantee respect for fundamental rights and lack democratic control. This system dates back to 2001 and is used for freezing the assets and restricting the mobility of people and organisations suspected of being terrorist. The system for EU black lists was particularly criticised in a recent Council of Europe report on the lack of transparency and non-respect of rules on the rule of law (EUROPE 9587) (B.C.)
