Brussels, 06/02/2008 (Agence Europe) - The European Commissioner for Education, Ján Fige¾, has announced the composition of the ad-hoc Identification Committee that will recommend members of the future EIT Governing Board. This will include Professor Günter Stock, Chairman, President of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities; Professor Miklos Boda advisor to the Rector at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics; Cecilia Schelin Seidegård, chairwoman of the Royal University of Technology in Stockholm and Professor Ronan Stéphan, director for industrial affairs and technology transfer of the at France Innovation Scientifique et Transfert S.A, a subsidiary of the CNRS and ANVAR. The experts will guarantee the independence, legitimacy and credibility of the identification process. Their work will begin this month and finish in around four months' time. The identification process will comprise a two-phase consultation with the main representative organisations at EU level. The Commission, after having informed the EP and the Council of the outcome of the selection process, will appoint the eighteen members of the EIT Governing Board. The EIT Governing Board will be in charge of defining the EIT's global strategic priorities and selecting the Knowledge and Innovation Communities (KICs) which will implement them. It will assess progress made in the attainment of the defined objectives and ensure coordination of the work in the strategic fields identified. The appointment of the members is planned for summer 2008, following adoption of the EIT regulation planned for March. (I.L.)
