THE DAY IN POLITICS / (eu) eu/bosnia-herzegovina

31/01/2008 (Agence Europe) - The EU High Representative to Bosnia-Herzegovina, Miroslav Lajcak, rejected a request by Bosnian Serbs on Wednesday 30 January to obtain the right of secession if this same right is recognised for Albanian speakers in Kosovo. Milorad Dodik, the prime minister of the Republika Srpska, declared the previous day to journalists that his region wanted the right to, “self-determination and secession” to be included in reform of the constitution currently being debated by the Serb, Croat, and Muslim communities in the country. Lajcak stressed that, “Bosnia-Herzegovina is an internationally recognised state and its territorial integrity is guaranteed under the Daton agreement. It existence cannot come under question”.
