Strasbourg, 10/12/2007 Strasbourg (Agence Europe) - In opening the last European Parliament session of the year, its president, Hans-Gert Pöttering, firstly congratulated (with a few words in their languages) the 35 new Romanian MEPs who entered the European Parliament following the elections in their country on 25 November. He also welcomed them to the European family.
President Pöttering denounced the violence which claimed two victims on Wednesday, two young police officers, one of whom died and the other of whom was injured.
The president of the EP announced that he had requested a meeting on Monday evening of the agriculture committee, to examine the amendments to the report by Giuseppe Castiglione on the wine market because 50 amendments had been submitted. Amendments that do not obtain 10% of the vote cannot be presented at the plenary. (L.G.)
