Brussels, 10/12/2007 (Agence Europe) - On Monday 10 December, the Commission approved 18 programmes to promote European Union farm products in third countries. The programmes accepted are those by Denmark, Germany, Greece, France, Italy, Cyprus, Hungary, Poland, Portugal and Slovakia. Promotional action targets the markets of the United Sates, Russia and China and cover wine, fruit, meat, dairy products, quality products (protected designations of origin and protected geographical indications), olive oil and organic products. The EU contribution is €19.6 million (50% of the total budget of the programmes).
“I see enormous sales potential on overseas markets, where people appreciate the history behind these high quality foodstuffs and wines”, commented Mariann Fischer Boel, Agriculture Commissioner. (L.C.)
