Adoption of Schmitt report on role of sport in education

Strasbourg, 19/11/2007 (Agence Europe) - The European Parliament has adopted the initiative report by Pál Schmitt (EPP-ED, Hungary) on sport in education by 590 votes for, 56 against and 21 abstentions. The report advocates physical education courses in schools in the form of three sports lessons per week in reaction to the reduction of the number of hours of sport observed in the majority of member states, and the increase in cases of obesity in children.
