Donald Tusk promises more pro-European policy

Brussels, 09/11/2007 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday, the future Polish prime minister Donald Tusk, who is expected to be asked to form a new government soon, promised the president of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso, that he would carry out policy that was more “pro-European” than his predecessor, Jaroslaw Kaczynski. At the end of a meeting with Mr Barosso, Mr Tusk declared: “I am keen to point out that the pro-European foreign policy of Poland will be more intense”. The president of the Commission welcomed this. Mr Barroso, who was in the Polish capital to receive his honorary doctorate at the Warsaw Business School affirmed: “We need the dynamism of the new EU member states, of which Poland is one of the biggest. Poland will benefit from its accession to the EU, just as the EU will benefit from a committed, constructive, dynamic and European Poland”.(H.B.)
