ELDR Annual Congress on 18-19 October

Brussels, 12/10/2007 (Agence Europe) - The European Liberal, Democrat and Reform (ELDR) party is to hold its annual congress in Berlin on 18-19 October. Entitled “A Liberal Europe for a Free World”, the event coincides with the Informal European Council in Lisbon, but themes covered will be very different to those discussed by the heads of state and government. Participants, notably Annemie Neyts-Uyttebroeck, ELDR President, will discuss three themes: climate change, the role of Europe in promoting democracy, and Europe as a global player. Also present in Berlin will be: Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen, European Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn, the leader of the ALDE Group at the European Parliament, Graham Watson, the former Canadian minister for foreign affairs and international trade, Pierre Pettigrew, and the leader of the German Liberals (FDP), Guido Westerwelle.
