12/10/2007 (Agence Europe) - Immediately after the two Nobel Peace Prize winners for 2007 were announced, José Manuel Barroso, President of the European Commission, congratulated the former American Vice President Al Gore and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) on their valuable work in making the public and decision-makers alike aware of the urgent need to fight against global warming. “Their contributions to the prevention of climate change have raised awareness all over the world. Their work has been an inspiration for politicians and citizens alike. The EU remains committed to its ambitious goals in the field. I call on all our partners to take this Nobel Peace Prize as encouragement to approach this challenge even more swiftly”, said Mr Barroso in a press release published on 12 October. (an)
