29/08/2007 (Agence Europe) - The increase in prices of agricultural raw materials over the summer has not been a matter of indifference to the former president of the committee on agriculture of the EP, Joseph Daul. We must be “extremely attentive” to the price hike on the cereals market, because this will have an influence on all consumer prices, he told EUROPE on Wednesday 26 August. Presenting the press with a view of the post-summer break priorities of the EPP-ED group which he chairs, Joseph Daul stressed, amongst other things, the issue of security, in terms of energy, climate and terrorism, but also in terms of food. This subject will add itself to the agenda if the household shopping basket is affected by increases on cereals prices and we must “think about this”, said the French UMP member. The EPP-ED group will tackle this issue in the second half of this year and early 2008, he stated, with one eye to the forthcoming reform of the Common agriculture policy (CAP). (ab)
