José Socrates calls for loyalty and responsibility

Lisbon, 02/07/2007 (Agence Europe) - Portugal does not intend to rush into the debate requested by Paris on enlargement and the borders of Europe. It is now time to finalise the Treaty, not to open up new and thorny issues, such as future relations with Turkey (EUROPE 9457). “The main thing is for us to take talks loyally forward”, José Socrates told the press, meeting in the official residence of the prime minister the day before the Portuguese presidency opened.
