02/07/2007 (Agence Europe) - The Committee of the Regions is delighted with the rapid adoption of the new legislation on roaming, just before the holidays, which will allow citizens to benefit from cheaper prices when phoning abroad. CoR President Michel Delebarre stated: “This is a very tangible initiative, one that will benefit consumers throughout the member states, regardless of borders”. He explained that “this regulation demonstrates that Europe is not all about haggling between governments - it's about making a real difference”. The new regulation entered into force on 30 June. Operators will have a month to provide a proposal to their customers, who will then in turn have a month to choose whether to accept the proposed tariffs or not. In the event of there being no reply, the Eurotarif will automatically apply (EUROPE 9441).
