Minimum retail selling prices for cigarettes: infringement proceedings against Austria, Ireland and Italy

Brussels, 02/07/2007 (Agence Europe) - On Monday, the European Commission sent out reasoned opinions to Austria, Ireland and Italy, and called on them to amend their legislation setting minimum retail selling prices for cigarettes. Drawing on the jurisprudence of the Court of Justice, the European Commission considers that these prices breach Community legislation and distort competition.
