02/07/2007 (Agence Europe) - During the conference on Afghanistan to be held on Tuesday 3 July in Rome, Benita Ferrero-Waldner, Commissioner for External Relations, will confirm the European Commission's intention to contribute €200 million to the development of rule of law in Afghanistan over the next four years (2007-2010). The aid package will have three priorities, the Commission explains in a press release: - institutional reform in the justice sector, support to judicial sector salaries, and funding of the Law and Order Trust Fund (LOTFA), which pays for police salaries. The Commission is already the top donor to LOTFA having contributed €135 million since 2002. Over the next two years, a further €75 million will be paid, the Commission press release states.
