Scientists advise against re-opening anchovy fishery in Bay of Biscay - Commission has to decide

Brussels, 02/07/2007 (Agence Europe) - On Friday 29 June, the Scientific, Technical and Economic Committee (STECF), which advises the European Commission, announced its advice on Bay of Biscay anchovy stocks. It recommended against re-opening this fishery “until at least July 2008”. The Commission will now make its decision, either not to authorise the marketing of this species or to set up a small quota for the rest of the year, by mid-July at the latest.
