Allocation of potato starch quotas for two marketing years

Brussels, 14/06/2007 (Agence Europe) - The EU Council of Ministers adopted without debate, on Monday 11 June, the regulation that extends the current potato starch quotas for two marketing years (2007-8 and 2008-9). The Lithuanian delegation voted against and Poland abstained. These two countries called for their quotas to be increased. Potato starch is the direct rival to cereal starch. According to the European Commission, changes to be made in this sector will be discussed during the “check-up” of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), in 2008-2009. Quotas for the 2007-8 and 2008-9 marketing years remain the same as they are now: Germany (656,298 tonnes), Netherlands (507,403 tonnes), France (265,354 tonnes), Denmark (168,215 tonnes), Poland (144,985 tonnes), Sweden (62,066 tonnes), Finland (53,178 tonnes), Austria (47,691 tonnes), Czech Republic (33,660 tonnes), Latvia (5,778 tonnes), Spain (1,943 tonnes), Lithuania (1,211 tonnes), Slovakia (729 tonnes) and Estonia (250 tonnes).
