Brussels, 13/06/2007 (Agence Europe) - The EU can be proud of being the biggest aid donor in the world but the Commission believes that it is time to act in a more concerted and coordinated way in the Union and with other actors, in an effort to improve its collective response to humanitarian crises and increase the impact of its interventions tenfold. This conviction explains the College's decision to adopt on 13 June, a political communication calling on the EU to establish European consensus on humanitarian aid (EUROPE 9444) based on the principles of neutrality, independence and impartiality of aid, as well as on a rapid response and increased efficiency in ways of helping victims who are increasingly difficult to access due to growing human rights violations. This consensus will take the form of a general political declaration from the Parliament, Council and Commission. (an)
