Commission proposes private-public partnership to limit polluting emissions from aeronautic sector

Brussels, 13/06/2007 (Agence Europe) - Wednesday 13 June's adoption of a call for proposals for the “Clean Sky”, the Joint Technological Initiative (JTI) means in effect that the Commission is setting out the foundations for a bigger public-private partnership in the research arena. Through targeted programmes this initiative aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 40%, nitrate oxide emissions by 60% and noise by 50% after 2015.

Funding for the initiative will be provided equally by the Commission (7th Framework Research programme) and the aeronautic industry, which will each provide €800 million for the main aviation areas (long distance, regional and giraviation) as well as for engine construction and “systems”. The commissioner in charge of research and science, Janez Potocnik, will present this proposal during the Bourget Aeronautic Exhibition on 20 July. (aby)
