Luxembourg, 07/06/2007 (Agence Europe) - Energy ministers of the Pentalateral Energy Forum (Germany, Belgium, France, Luxembourg and the Netherlands), as well as representatives of regulatory authorities, transport network managers and the above countries' electricity markets signed, on Wednesday on the sidelines of the Energy Council, a memorandum of understanding for the creation of a single interconnected electricity market on 1 January 2009. The aim is twofold: - to ensure supply security and to serve as a vanguard for the creation of a single integrated electricity market throughout the EU. On 1 January 2009, there should only be one adjudicating system for electricity for the five countries and producers should be able to share their forecasts, while network managers harmonise risk prevention management.
