Series of conferences on justice and home affairs

Brussels, 01/06/2007 (Agence Europe) - Several events will be taking place in June on subjects relating to justice and home affairs. A conference entitled “Europe in search of security” will be held at the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB) on Monday 5 June from 18: 00 to 20: 00. Subjects covered will include the Prüm Treaty, data exchange, the fight against terrorism, cross-border crime and illegal migration. Participants will include: Gilles de Kerchove, director at the EU Council Secretariat General, Professor Emmanuelle Bribosia (IEE-ULB) and Didier Bigo, professor of Political Science Paris-CERI and scientific coordinator of the 6th FPRD Freedom and Security. The law on road accidents in Europe will be the subject of a conference in Riga on 7-8 June organised by the institute for European road traffic law in cooperation with the Academy of European Law (ERA). Experts will present the current situation on insurance law and civil liability in certain member states of the European Union. The conference will also cover questions pertaining to applicable legislation and the competent jurisdiction in the event of road accidents abroad, and in particular instruments adopted by the European Union such as the 2000 directive on car insurance which establishes an effective mechanism for the regulation on accidents, and the Rome II regulation on the law to be applied to non-contractual obligations. ERA will also be organising a conference in Trier on 14-15 June on the emerging case-law of the EU courts concerning the European area of freedom, security and justice.
