Brussels, 31/05/2007 (Agence Europe) - The Mediterranean Forum will meet at Rethymon, Crete, on 1-2 June. It will bring together the foreign ministers of 11 Mediterranean countries, EU members and not: Algeria, Egypt, France, Greece, Italy, Malta, Morocco, Portugal, Spain, Tunisia and Turkey. At this 8th meeting, ministers will discuss the situation in the region, particularly the Middle East, the forthcoming G8 meeting and, above all, cooperation in the Mediterranean. France is expected to confirm its proposal for a “Mediterranean Union”, similar to the EU (see EUROPE 9362). The Forum is a body for informal dialogue, set up in 1994 on the initiative of France and the countries of the southern rim. (fb)
