Brussels, 29/05/2007 (Agence Europe) - The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) will be meeting in Brussels on Thursday 30 and Friday 31 May under the chairmanship of Dimitris Dimitriadis. The session will be marked by speeches made on Thursday morning by the vice-president of the European Commission, Günter Verheugen, on “better regulation”; and by his counterpart, Margot Wallström, who will present the annual policy strategy for 2008 and sign the addendum to the Commission/EESC cooperation protocol.
The committee will take a stance on: (1) two own-initiative opinions on: - the internal market for services (Rapporteur: Ms Alleweldt, Workers, Germany); - European road safety policy and professional drivers (Mr Etty, Workers, Netherlands); (2) three exploratory opinions on: - the future legislation on e-accessibility (Mr Hernandez Bataller, Various Interests, Spain); - quality norms - social impact studies (Mr Retureau, Workers, France); - the challenges and opportunities of the EU in the context of globalisation (Messrs Malosse, Employers, France, and Nilsson, Various Interests, Sweden). Members will also examine opinions relating to the modernisation of labour law, European alcohol-related damage strategy, air transport services, mergers and break-ups of limited liability companies, the marketing of phytopharmaceutical products, and life-long learning.
